Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection
It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication. |
Sinusitis is an inflammatory condition of the sinuses. Sinusitis develops when the openings to the sinuses become blocked and mucus and bacteria become trapped inside the cavities. The blockage occurs when there is swelling, usually from a cold or allergies, in the sinus cavity and its opening, and bacteria attack the swollen lining causing more inflammation. When this inflammation occurs, the cilia cannot wash out the mucus and bacteria as it normally would because the swelling at the opening of the cavities is too great and nothing can escape. There are many symptoms of sinusitis which include postnasal drip, cough, facial pressure, and green nasal discharge.
There are many treatments for sinusitis and its symptoms. Once such treatment is an antibiotic called Biaxin XL. Biaxin XL is used for many different kinds of infections such as strep throat, skin conditions, bronchitis, and sinusitis. Biaxin XL, along with any other antibiotics, works by traveling through the blood stream to the area of infection. In the sinus cavities however, there are only a small amount of blood vessels so it is difficult to the full amount of antibiotic needed, to be distributed to that area. Another form of treatment that is often used to fight sinusitis is nasal sprays. Nasal sprays also cannot dispense the needed amount of medication due to its large particle size not being able to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavity. Therefore they do not make it to the sinus infection.
Sinus Dynamics is the most innovative technology in the treatment of sinusitis. The Sinus Dynamics program uses nebulized antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and anti-fungals. Because of the 3.2 micron size, Sinus Dynamics medications can easily work through the inflammation and make it into the sinus cavities, where the infection lies. There are also little to no side effects with Sinus Dynamics medications since they are topical, and a very little amount of medication is used. Sinus Dynamics nebulized therapy is safe and effective with a 98% success rate.
