Sinusitis Chronic Infection

A sinusitis chronic infection is caused by an obstruction of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavity.  Inflammation normally takes place when someone has an allergy or a cold.  During the course of a cold or an allergy the bacteria can attack the inflamed walls of the sinus cavity lining, again producing more swelling.  If the lining of the sinus cavity becomes severely inflamed, bacteria and mucus become trapped inside the sinus cavity producing the sinusitis infection.

The most common symptoms that characterize a sinusitis infection are:

  • nasal discharge
  • cough
  • facial pressure
  • headache
  • sore throat
  • fatigue
  • congestion

A sinusitis infection is defined as chronic if it lasts for more than twelve weeks.  A diagnosis of acute sinusitis is rendered when the infection lasts for less than twelve weeks. There are many symptoms of chronic sinusitis infection some of these symptoms include, dizziness, loss of smell, loss of taste and fatigue.  In addition, chronic sinusitis is associated with nasal polyps, subdividing the diagnosis of chronic sinusitis cases with or without polyps unlike acute sinusitis.  As the cause of chronic sinusitis is poorly understood exploring environmental factors, like dust and mold, bacteria, fungus, and pollution are useful in causation.

There are numerous treatments for chronic sinusitis that are utilized.  Some treatments for sinusitis are much more effective than other treatments.  Oral antibiotics are the most common form of treatment prescribed by physicians for chronic sinusitis at this time although they are known to be marginally effective in treating sinus infections.  Oral medications rely on the blood stream to deliver medication to the site of infection.  However, it is due to the lack of blood vessels in the sinus cavity that the sinus cavity does not receive a proper dose of medication.  The small amount of blood vessels results in an ineffective method for delivering the antibiotic to the sinus cavity. The sinus cavities are unique in comparison to other parts of the body as a result of the small amount of blood vessels in them.  It is the lack of blood vessels in the sinus cavity which make it difficult for the antibiotic to get to the infection in the sinus area; there is little opportunity for the oral antibiotic to make physical contact with the sinus infection.

Nasal sprays are commonly used in combination with oral medications.  Nasal sprays are limited in their capacity to topically flush out the upper sinus infection.  Nasal sprays are able to flush out the lower sinus passages, but due to the large particle size of the nasal spray droplet the medication cannot reach the upper sinus area or pass through the inflamed opening of the sinus cavities resulting in a poor treatment for inflamed upper sinus cavities.

Avoiding Sinus Surgery

Sinusitis surgery is a standard treatment method utilized when all other treatment methods for sinusitis have failed.  Chronic sinusitis patients are the most common recipients of sinus surgery as well as those patients requiring polyp removal.  FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) is the keystone surgical treatment for sinusitis and nasal polyps.  Fess is typically performed under local or general anesthesia, and lasts approximately two hours as an inpatient procedure.  In traditional sinus surgery, an opening is made into the sinus.  Patients who have not responded to standard treatments, like oral antibiotics and oral steroids, require a sinus surgery.   Unfortunately, sinus surgery is painful and those receiving sinus surgery statistically require additional sinus surgeries.

Chronic Sinus Infection TX: Sinus Dynamics

Sinus Dynamics offers the most innovative treatment for sinusitis infection currently on the market with custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are delivered directly into the sinus cavities with a state of the art nebulizer that produces a pressurized aerosolized mist.  A topical treatment for sinusitis during pregnancy is a much more appropriate treatment, due to the low systemic absorption with topical treatments.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a fine medicated mist with 3.2-micron particle size that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities, depositing medication and making contact with the infection directly. The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into nasal passages reaching the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is particularly effective as there are little to no side effects and medications that are topically applied actually reach the site of infection unlike the other treatment methods prescribed.  Sinus Dynamics sinus therapy is highly effective, easy to use, and safe with a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with sinusitis.  Call Sinus Dynamics today to order your treatment for your Sinusitis Chronic Infection (877) 447-4276.
