Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Cure Your Chronic Sinusitis

One of the most commonly diagnosed chronic illnesses is chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis begins with an inflammation of the mucus membranes in your sinuses. Fluids build up and clog the sinus cavity, preventing normal mucus drainage.

Chronic sinusitis is a miserable condition that impairs your quality of life. Difficulty of breathing through the nose, frequent headaches and tenderness of the face or pressure behind the eyes are some of the symptoms of chronic sinusitis. There can also be frequent yellow or greenish discharge from your nose or drainage down the back of your throat.

Most cases of sinusitis get resolved in less than four weeks. That is why some people just live with sinusitis for weeks, waiting for the problem to disappear and go away. This kind of sinusitis is acute sinusitis. However, when the condition recurs or endures longer than 12 consecutive weeks, this is already a case of chronic sinusitis. You need to actually take steps to cure your chronic sinusitis, because the prolonged sickness might lead to other infections that could further worsen your condition.

So how do you cure your chronic sinusitis?

When seeking treatment, consulting your physician is always the best way to go. Antibiotics may be needed to be prescribed that can help ease the symptoms for bacterial chronic sinusitis. Analgesic prescriptions can also be given to help cure your chronic sinusitis especially if you're feeling pain.

There are also over the counter medications you can purchase to help cure your chronic sinusitis. Some other methods that can help you include placing air humidifiers in your home. This is more effective especially if your sinusitis is caused by allergies, pet dander, or something from the environment that is not agreeing with your system. Placing a humidifier throughout common areas in your home can help rid your atmosphere of these allergens.

An advanced technology treatment of sinusitis is offered by Sinus Dynamics. It combines the use of an aerosolizing device and custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory medications. Immediate and better results with fewer side effects can be expected by sinusitis patients. A Sinus Dynamics professional is available to answer your questions concerning the treatments.
