Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Cure for Chronic Sinusitis

The symptoms of sinusitis can commonly be cured by simple methods. The cure for symptoms like stuffy nose, sneezing, headache, and facial pain can be alleviated by taking over-the-counter medication such as decongestants, antihistamines, and ibuprofen. Some other simple cures for sinusitis are to increase consumption of vitamin C, spicy foods (which help to make mucous thinner), and hot tea (which might bring relief to your sore throat).

The symptoms of sinusitis may remain the same no matter if it is acute sinusitis or chronic sinusitis. The difference between the two is the span of the condition. If your sinusitis symptoms persist for more than twelve weeks, that is when acute (short term) sinusitis starts to be considered chronic sinusitis.

Causes for sinusitis include allergies, asthma, fungal infection, and the common cold. If you leave your sinusitis untreated, it might advance from acute sinusitis to chronic sinusitis. The best approach to cure your sinusitis would be to take the simple measures mentioned above at the first sign you recognize your sinusitis.

Chronic sinusitis is less common than acute sinusitis, but the symptoms are mostly the same. The cures for acute sinusitis and for chronic sinusitis are similar as well. In addition to the simple techniques mentioned earlier, another cure for sinusitis - whether acute or chronic - is to use nasal sprays. Nasal sprays are available over the counter, just like non prescription medication.

Sinus Dynamics offers an aerosolizing device that administers prescription medication to your nasal passages using the latest and most advanced in medical technology. It is not available over the counter because it contains prescription medicine that is customized according to what will target your sinusitis. Sinus Dynamics has a team of pharmacists who are highly skilled and very willing to help you get to the medication that will best be able to help you cure your sinusitis, no matter what type you happen to be suffering from. The Sinus Dynamics nebulizer sprays a fine mist of medication into your nasal passages and expels the excess mucous that is keeping you from breathing as freely as you would without sinusitis.
