Sinusitis Pilonidal

A pilonidal cyst or pilonidal sinus is an abscess usually located in the cleft of the buttocks and contains hair and skin debris.  A pilonidal cyst is actually a boil which is a “localized infection in the skin that generally starts as a reddened tender area.” Pilonidal cysts can develop in other areas of the body less commonly such as the navel, armpit or penis.  Any tract or channel in the body is referred to as “a sinus” and that is where potential pilonidal cysts develop.  The sinus tract is referred to as the channel that excess pus and material will drain from.  Pilonidal cysts are a form of boil.

  • ·         A boil is synonymous with cyst and is recognized as a collection of localized pus deep below the skin; a skin abscess.   A pilonidal cyst is seen more commonly in Caucasians and occurs in men more often than women.

Treatment requires antibiotics, hot compress, and sometimes surgery to excise the cyst which is reoccurring.  Any break in the skin such as a cut or scrape can develop into a boil and can become infected with bacteria.

During a sinusitis pilondial infection when the immune system is compromised, those who are prone to develop pilonidal cysts may experience a reoccurrence.  Both pilonidal cysts and sinusitis are characterized by blockage and inflammation.  A pilonidal cyst can spread and infect the entire body.  Sinusitis that is chronic can lower the immune system allowing for opportunistic infections to develop.  A pilonidal cyst or sinus is an abscess usually located at the end of the tail bone.  Chronic sinusitis is a condition that drains the immune system, in particular, and opportunistic infections may take root as a result.

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses caused by a blockage in the sinus cavity that stem from the presence of foreign debris in the sinus passages.  Sinusitis is recognized as inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages that can cause headache, pressure in the eyes, nose, cheek area, congestion, sore throat and fever. A person with a sinus infection may also have a cough, a fever, bad breath, and nasal congestion with thick nasal secretions.

  • ·         Sinusitis is categorized as acute, sudden onset, or chronic (long term, the most common type.  Sinusitis infection symptoms can also include increased sensitivity in the head or headache when they lean forward.  Less typical symptoms include pain and pressure in the ears, fatigue as well as dental pain.

Blocked sinuses create significant discomfort as pressure builds in the swollen sinus cavities.  There are various methods used to treat a sinusitis infection and experience symptom relief.  Sinus drainage is vital for quality of life and functional breathing as well as reducing inflammation.  Treatments that result in drainage will produce symptom relief as well as alleviate the blockage and severe congestion.  Drainage is the act or process of drawing off fluids from a cavity or wound by means of suction or gravity.  Drainage is also an essential part of healing the pilonidal cyst.  A sinusitis infection is experienced as a cold that won’t go away, nasal pressure, pain, postnasal drip, headache, pressure in the face and cheeks.  The blockage of foreign debris of bacteria, fungi or virus also triggers excess mucus production in the sinus cavities and inflammation due to the pathogens attacking the sinus cavity openings.  When the sinus cavity openings are attacked this leads to a more serious sinus infection.  Sinusitis develops typically when there is existing inflammation from a cold or allergy.  When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swelling of the cavity lining, causing more inflammation.  During a sinusitis infection, the cilia which are small hairs in the nasal passageways cannot perform their function of removing the debris that is blocked inside the sinus cavity.

Treating Pilondal sinusitis

The standard treatment for a pilonidal sinusitis is an oral antibiotic.  If the cyst has not cleared a surgery is performed and the cyst is drained.  An oral antibiotic is usually effective in treating most pilonidal cysts.  When the oral antibiotic fails to eradicate the cyst, there are various surgical procedures that are performed on pilonidal cysts depending on the cyst location and recurrence.

A new treatment

Sinusitis is also commonly treated with an oral antibiotic.  Unfortunately, oral antibiotics are marginally effective in treating sinusitis infections.  Oral antibiotics work by traveling though the blood stream to the area of infection and arrive at the infection through the blood vessels.  Relying on the sinus cavities to provide the medication through the limited supply of blood vessels in the sinus cavity is problematic as the blood vessels cannot deliver an effective dose of medication to the actual site of infection.  Recurrent sinusitis infections are common with the use of oral antibiotics due to the scant amount of blood vessels that are thus unable to deliver an effective dose to the site of infection.  The sinus cavities blood vessels which are swollen and infected providing all the treatment to the sinusitis infection results in an ineffective method for treating this area of the body.   In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral antibiotics.

Sinus Dynamics offers the most innovative treatment for sinusitis infection currently on the market with custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are delivered directly into the sinus cavities with a state of the art nebulizer that produces a pressurized aerosolized mist.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a fine medicated mist with 3.2-micron particle size that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities, depositing medication and making contact with the infection directly. The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into nasal passages reaching the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is particularly effective as medications that are topically applied result in little to no side effects and ensure a low systemic absorption rate as well as reaching the site of infection unlike the other treatment methods prescribed.  Sinus Dynamics sinus therapy is highly effective, easy to use, and safe with a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with sinusitis.  If you have sinusitis pilonidal infection call Sinus Dynamics (877) 447-4276 today to begin fast effective treatment!
