Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinus Cocaine

Cocaine is a stimulant that is a very popular choice of addictive drug for many individuals. May it be tried for social reasons (to keep up with the "cool kids") or for medical purposes (as an anesthetic), cocaine has been abused too often too much.

This drug acts fast in accessing and manipulating your brain processes and the whole of your central nervous system. This is why people like cocaine - it quickly gets you to the happy feelings that make you forget the hardships of the world. But because of the very direct way that cocaine travels in your system, it becomes a threat to the normal ways of how your body operates.

Because of how intensely it can affect your system, cocaine is illegal except for medical and government-sanctioned use. Even with prescribed dosages of cocaine, you have to consider the factor that because of the drug's addictive quality, patients may overuse the drug. That is why doctors need to monitor their patients' use of cocaine.

One of the most common health issues encountered by cocaine users is a sinus infection. For individuals who snort the stimulant, the nasal passages become exposed to too much of the drug, causing blockages and tissue damages. Cocaine is too strong for the nasal and sinus membranes to handle. This results to the irritation and sensitivity of the nasal passages to the foreign particles that are forced to pass through them.

Pressure on the face near the sinuses is felt when the sinuses get aggravated by cocaine. Headaches soon follow. Nasal congestion, facial swelling, runny nose, post nasal drip, and a deviated septum can also develop.

You can choose to relieve these sinus pains by inhaling menthol to soothe the nasal areas, taking painkillers for the headache, and taking medication to heal sinus and nasal tissue damage. But ultimately, if cocaine use is not stopped, your sinuses will continue to be troubled.

Sinus Dynamics has a nebulizer that can ease most of the problems (if not all) experienced by your sinuses. Custom compound medication is distributed by inhaling a very fine mist of the said medication. It reaches the sinuses almost instantly, without causing further irritation. After just a few minutes, you can feel the soothing and healing effects. Learn more about this relief option to see if you can use this to fight your sinus infections.
