Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinus Post Nasal Drip

Sinusitis and rhinitis come with very unlikeable characteristics. Aside from the discomfort they bring, they can also be annoying to those people around the affected individuals.

Post-nasal discharge, also called post nasal drip (PND), is one of the characteristics of the above-mentioned conditions. It is defined as the mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat leading to, or giving the sensation of, mucus dripping downward from the back of the nose. It gives the feeling of thick phlegm in the throat, which can become infected because it is not moving and just laying there inside your throat.

The sensation of something sticky dripping down your throat is quite annoying. To make yourself more comfortable you can attempt to clear your nose and throat by constantly swallowing, coughing, spitting, etc. But in the process, the throat can become quite sore and irritated. This may also lead to chronic cough.

Normally, the throat is moistened by the nasal secretions and mucous glands. This is part of the mucous-nasal-cilia system that defends us from disease. When the amount of liquid secreted by the nose and sinus is reduced, and the movement of the cilia of the nose and sinus slows down, the fluid thickens, thus resulting to post nasal drip. The symptoms include blockage of one or both nostrils and an unpleasant taste caused by the mucus.

Sinus Dynamics help ease irritations and annoyances (like PND) by providing us with the latest nebulizer equipment combined with compounded medications especially formulated by doctors to suit the patient's needs. The Sinus Dynamics nebulizer, which releases micro-mists into the sinuses and nasal cavities, clears the airways and helps patients breathe easily. The particles and the equipment aids in the even distribution of the medication, thus allowing for maximum use of the formula and reaching even the hardest parts.

The Sinus Dynamics treatment is quick and simple, usually taking only about five minutes or less each session. A helpful representative will consult with every patient concerning the use of the nebulizer. Consultation is provided in over 150 languages using a translation service. With the Sinus Dynamics solution, your sinus and rhinitis problems will be treated in no time.
