Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Antibiotic Treatment

Sinusitis is an infection in the sinus cavities caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities.  This blockage begins when a patient has a cold or allergy which causes swelling of the sinus cavity lining.  When bacteria get into the sinus cavities and attack the already swollen cavity lining, greater inflammation occurs and the cilia then can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus and the sinusitis infection begins.  Some of the many symptoms of sinusitis include cough, congestion, headache, postnasal drip, and facial pain and pressure.  When the infection lasts for twelve weeks or more it is considered chronic and the patient may also experience loss of sense of smell and taste and they may become fatigued.

There are several kinds of treatments for sinusitis.  One of the most common forms of treatment is a prescribed oral antibiotic.  An oral antibiotic works by flowing through the blood stream to the area of infection.   Antibiotics work great to cure many kinds of infections.  The problem using an oral antibiotic for a sinusitis infection is that there are very few blood vessels in the sinus cavities so an effective amount of antibiotic cannot be delivered to the sinusitis infection.  Also, there can be side effects with an oral antibiotic such as abdominal pain and urinary tract infection.

Sinus Dynamics is the most innovative form of treatment for sinusitis.  Sinus Dynamics antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal treatments are used in a nebulized form, making it simple for the 3.2 micron particles to make their way through the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavity, and strait to the sinusitis infection.  Sinus Dynamics nebulized antibiotics are much more effective than oral antibiotics since they are directly nebulized into the sinusitis infection.  There are little to no side effects since a small amount of Sinus Dynamics topical medication is used.  Sinus Dynamics has a 98% success rate in patients which clearly shows that it is the safest and most successful treatment for sinusitis.
