Sinusitis Cancer Symptoms
|
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) also known as Cantonese Cancer is cancer that develops in the uppermost region of the throat or pharynx where the nasal passages and auditory tubes and the upper respiratory tract converge. NPC is very rare in the United States and typically occurs in East Asia and Africa almost exclusively occurring in males. Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma is difficult to detect due to the anatomical structure of the nasopharynx and diagnosis is made by a lymph node biopsy. NPC frequently presents as a painless enlarged lymph node in the neck that can cause pain if it has metastasized or cause organ dysfunction. · Signs and symptoms of NPC include nasal obstruction, hearing loss, headache, Tinnitus, cranial nerve palsies, blood in the saliva, nasal congestion and nasal bleeding. Risk factors include exposure to Epstein-Barr virus, genetic susceptibility, consumption of salted fish, and Chinese or Asian ancestry. Unlike other cancers, NPC is not correlated to the use of alcohol or tobacco. A Sinusitis infection shares symptoms that occur in NPC such as headache, dental pain, nasal obstruction, mucus, and sore throat. Accurate diagnosis may prove difficult due to the comorbidity of Sinusitis Cancer Symptoms (NPC). When a patient presents with NPC, blood is typically found in the mucus indicating cancer of the neck or lungs. Sinusitis develops when there is existing inflammation from a cold or allergy. Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses that is usually caused by a blockage in the sinus cavity by foreign debris. The result of having a blockage of bacteria, fungi or virus is excess mucus production in the sinus cavities and inflammation due to the pathogens attacking the sinus cavity openings. When the sinus cavity openings are attacked this leads to a more serious sinus infection. When bacteria gets into the sinus cavities, they attack the swelling of the cavity lining, causing more inflammation. During a sinusitis infection, the cilia which are small hairs in the nasal passageways cannot perform their function of removing the debris that is blocked inside the sinus cavity. There are a myriad of symptoms that take place with a sinusitis infection. Common symptoms of a sinusitis infection include: cough, upper respiratory congestion, postnasal drip, nasal discharge, fever, facial pain and facial pressure. At night, the sinusitis symptoms can worsen when laying down, as mucus and phlegm settle back into the sinuses and throat allowing for congestion, blocked airways and nasal discharge to take place. Sinusitis Cancer Symptom do not share a common treatment. Surgery is usually not performed on Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma due to the difficulty in conducting surgery on the nose and throat area. However, surgery is performed only in cases of recurrent NPC where surgical resection of recurrent lesions develop. Surgery is part of sinusitis as a consideration when nasal sprays and oral medications fail, sinus surgery may be recommended. In sinus surgery, only part of the inflammation and infection is cleaned out. Statistically, sinus surgery recipients experience a reoccurrence of the infection, often requiring additional sinus surgeries. There are typically only two treatments for NPC, chemotherapy and radiation, neither treatment is used for treating a sinusitis infection. There are many treatment forms available for sinusitis infection and the most common treatment for a sinusitis infection is an oral antibiotic. Oral antibiotics are widely prescribed and yet are marginally effective. A sinusitis infection resides inside the nasal cavities. The nasal cavities rely on the blood stream and blood vessels to carry the antibiotic to the site of infection. A significant problem exists for the sinus cavities relying on the blood vessels exclusively to deliver medication to the infected sinus cavities; the sinus cavities are characterized be very few blood vessels. With a scant amount of blood vessels found in the sinus cavity, these tiny swollen nasal membranes that are also infected cannot provide an effective dose of medication. In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral antibiotics. Aerosol Therapy – to effectively treat sinus infections Sinus Dynamics custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are delivered topically into the sinus cavities with a state of the art nebulizer providing an effective treatment for all sinusitis infections. Sinus Dynamics’ treatment method may also be an appropriate adjunctive therapy for those also suffering with NPC. The nebulizer emits a fine medicated mist with 3.2-micron sized particle that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities and fight through the bacteria, reaching the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities. Sinus Dynamics offers the most effective treatment for all types of sinusitis infections by delivering medication directly in the sinus cavity, the medication reaches the site of infection through the pressurized aerosolized mist that can travel up into the inflamed sinuses. The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.
