Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Infection Congestion

Sinusitis is caused by a blockage in the sinus cavity.  The blockage begins when the bacteria that gets trapped in the sinus cavity attacks the cavity lining, which causes more swelling and irritation than the typical amount of inflammation that a patient may experience with a cold or with allergies.  A common symptom in sinusitis infections is congestion.  Congestion is an excessive build up of the fluid in the nasal passage due to the swollen membranes.  Congestion obstructs the flow of nasal fluids and can also be a cause of the sinusitis infection.  Congestion can also create such other symptoms such as headaches, ear pain, and facial pain.  Congestion is a symptom of a sinusitis infection, but is also a symptom of the common cold or the flu.

Often times over the counter decongestants are used for congestion.  These usually only temporarily relieve symptoms.  Decongestants operate by entering the blood stream and narrowing the blood flow in the lining of the nose.  When congestion is caused by a sinusitis infection, it is difficult for the decongestant medications to get into the blood stream in the sinus cavities where the infection lies, due to the limited amount of blood vessels in the cavity lining.  Nasal sprays are also commonly used for congestion.  It is also difficult for nasal sprays to work their way up into the sinus cavities because their large particle size cannot travel through the inflammation in the opening of the sinus cavities.  Nasal sprays will only be delivered to the lower part of the sinus cavity.

Sinus Dynamics works differently to clear the congestion and other symptoms of a sinusitis infection.  With sinus dynamics 98% success rate in patients and the latest technology, Sinus Dynamics is an easier and more effective form of treatment for patients with sinusitis infections.  The 3.2 micron particle sized medications can easily can work their way through the inflammation in the opening of the sinus cavity to fight the infection at the source of the problem.  Since Sinus Dynamics antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and anti-fungals are nebulized medications that go strait into the sinuses, they are able to get into blood stream in the cavities and clear the infection unlike any other form of treatment.  Because Sinus Dynamics medications are only distributed into the sinuses, there are little to no side effects unlike other forms of treatment.
