Sinusitis Infection Steroid Nasal Spray

A sinusitis steroid nasal spray is a nasal spray that is hand pumped spray that instills a fine mist into the nostrils and reduces inflammation in the sinus and nasal passageways.  Steroids or corticosteroids are organic or synthetic fat soluble compounds that provide important physiological actions and are any of the steroid hormones made by the cortex of the adrenal gland.  Steroid nasal sprays are recommended to reduce inflammation that develop during a sinusitis infection and prevent histamine production.  By disrupting histamine, the nasal steroid can also block allergic reactions that often trigger sinusitis and can prevent other symptoms that can accompany a sinusitis infection.  Histamines are nitrogen compounds that are produced as a regulating physiologic response triggering an inflammatory response to foreign pathogens.  Histamine causes nasal mucus production as it increases vascular permeability, resulting in fluid escaping from the capillaries into the tissues.

Sinusitis steroid nasal sprays and oral steroids are often the last step for sinusitis patients whose symptoms did not respond to the standard protocol of treatment and over the counter medications.  A steroid will help with swelling in nasal membranes, nasal secretions, shrink nasal polyps, and provide an improvement in breathing due to the airways being opened up.  Unlike spray decongestants, the benefits from the nasal steroid typically takes three to five days to open up the sinus passages.  Side effects are minimal with nasal steroids as the amount absorbed through the mucus membranes is so miniscule that body functions are not disrupted.  Steroid nasal sprays are one of the largest prescribed medications worldwide with people taking them for decades without side effects.  The only notable side effect is nose bleed and sinus irritation that occurs in 1 in 5 users usually developing from improper usage.

Allergists and doctors will frequently recommend or prescribe a combination of nasal sprays in combination with each other and with other drugs.  A saline solution may also be recommended with a nasal spray to assist with irrigation and respiratory health.  Sinus irrigation can be an effective way of taking care of your sinus passages and nasal area, the goal of the sinus irrigation process is to flush out unwanted elements in your nose and sinuses. These unwanted elements may be allergens, dust particles, pollen, excess mucus, bacteria or fungi. Another goal of sinus irrigation is to retain and restore the natural movement of the cilia.  The cilia are the hairs found in the mucus membranes of the nasal passages, needed to protect the nasal area from infection.  There are various methods of sinus irrigation put into practice. A person seeking to use nasal irrigation will have a variety of irrigators to choose from as there are quite a few sinus irrigators available.  Sinus irrigators are easily obtained and tend to be convenient as well as satisfying for the person in need of nasal irrigation.  A common nasal spray utilized is a saline nasal spray that is a sodium chloride and water mixture used for nasal irrigation and other conditions such as rinsing contact lenses. Concentrations of saline solution vary depending on the intended use.

A nasal spray is a treatment method that is widely utilized for sinusitis infections and can provide some sinus relief.  Nasal sprays are obtained over the counter or prescribed by a physician but due to the design of the nasal spray bottle, a nasal spray emits a large particle size that cannot fit into the tiny sinus openings.  The large particle cannot reach the inflamed openings of the sinus cavities nor remove the pathogens caught inside the upper sinus cavities.  Nasal sprays only treat the lower nasal passages and remove pathogens in the lower sinus regions unless there has been a previous functional endoscopic sinus surgery.  The purpose of a sinus irrigator is to clean out his or her sinus cavities and nasal passages as well as prevent the development of an infection.  For individuals who already have a sinus problem or allergies, a sinus irrigator can help improve a preexisting condition by clearing out nasal congestion, post nasal drip and other allergens with water and saline solutions.

A sinusitis infection is caused by an obstruction of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavity.  Inflammation normally takes place when someone has an allergy or a cold.  During the course of a cold or an allergy the bacteria can attack the inflamed walls of the sinus cavity lining, again producing more swelling.  If the lining of the sinus cavity becomes severely inflamed, bacteria and mucus become trapped inside the sinus cavity producing the sinusitis infection.  The most common symptoms that characterize a sinusitis infection are nasal discharge, cough, facial pressure, headache, and congestion.  A sinusitis infection is defined as chronic if it lasts for more than twelve weeks.  There are many symptoms of chronic sinusitis infection some of these symptoms include, dizziness, loss of smell, loss of taste and fatigue.  A saline nasal spray can be helpful in reducing respiratory dryness and nasal congestion and has the advantage of portability during a sinusitis infection.

Antihistamine nasal sprays are also used frequently and provide relief as they help clear up excess mucus from allergic reactions that often trigger sinusitis infection such as Benadryl, Claritin or Sudafed.  Antihistamines are “any drug that neutralize the effects of histamine, used especially in the treatment of allergies.” Nasal spray decongestants also used during a sinusitis infection and function by shrinking swollen mucous membranes that are in the nasal passageways and sinus cavity openings.  The purpose of a decongestant is to allow for easy breathing during a sinus infection, unblocking the airways.  In addition, a decongestant can also assist in shortening the course of the illness by shrinking the ostia, allowing the mucus to drain from the sinus cavity.  Spray decongestants also are available and provide immediate relief, but due to the active ingredient oxymetazoline or phenylephrine can become habit forming as well as inducing a rebound effect.  If spray decongestants are used for too long and the medication wears off, the swelling in the nasal cavity returns and is more severe than it was prior to the last application of decongestant.  Hence, a dependency on nasal sprays can easily develop which may require steroids to assist with the withdrawal period as well as reducing inflammation.  The rebound effect from a decongestant spray can occur for anyone using a decongestant spray from a bad cold to an acute sinusitis infection.  When physicians have failed in eradicating the sinusitis infection, sinus surgery will often be recommended.  Sinus surgery is painful and only clears out a portion of the sinus infection.  Patients who have had previous sinus surgeries typically require future sinus surgeries.

There are also nasal irrigator devices available are motorized, both electric and battery operated.  Motorized nasal irrigators offer a pulsating irrigation, a more direct way of rinsing the nasal passages. The pressure and flow of the rinsing mixture can be specified and controlled for your preference and need. Using motorized nasal irrigators offer a more thorough and customized rinsing with the pulsating solution being sent deeper into the nasal passages.

A nebulizer can also act as an effective sinus irrigator. The Nebulizer provided by Sinus Dynamic helps clear out sinus infection and gently forces unwanted particles out of the nasal passages.  The inhaled medicated mist reduces inflammation and loosens impacted debris.  The Sinus Dynamics Nebulizer irrigates your nasal passages gently and effectively.  In addition, Sinus Dynamics provides the antibiotics, antifungals and anti inflammatories needed to treat the vast array of sinus conditions.

If you have been prescribed steroids and oral antibiotics and your physician feels you have failed treatment with steroids and oral antibiotics for your sinusitis infection, call Sinus Dynamics (877) 447-4276 today!  Sinus Dynamics offers the most innovative treatment for sinusitis infection currently on the market with custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are delivered directly into the sinus cavities with a state of the art nebulizer that produces a pressurized aerosolized mist.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a fine medicated mist with 3.2-micron particle size that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities, depositing medication and making contact with the infection directly. The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into nasal passages reaching the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is particularly effective as medications that are topically applied result in little to no side effects and ensure a low systemic absorption rate as well as reaching the site of infection unlike the other treatment methods prescribed.  Sinus Dynamics sinus therapy is highly effective, easy to use, and safe with a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with sinusitis.
