Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain
  • If you have allergies try to avoid contact with substances that trigger attacks

Allergy testing, followed by appropriate allergy treatments, may increase your tolerance of allergy-causing substances.

Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria.

It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants.

Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication.

Sinusitis Recommended Antibiotics

Antibiotics are commonly recommended for use in getting rid of infectious bacteria in your body. They prevent bacteria from reproducing, and aid your immune system in putting up a fight against infections.

One of the bacterial infections that antibiotics can cure is sinusitis. Usually, the sinusitis condition starts as a simple bacterial infection that comes through the nose, where the trapped bacteria would develop into other infections involving the nasal passages, the sinuses, and even the throat. This kind of sinusitis can be treated by killing off the bacteria that causes sinusitis to be a lot of trouble. Symptoms like nasal congestion, facial pain, headache and excessive mucus can all go away by going to the source of the infection and taking it out.

But even as doctors keep recommending antibiotics for sinusitis, you still need to be careful in assessing your personal situation. Let your doctor know about your medical history, your previous sinus problems, and your present living/working conditions. There are types of sinusitis that are not caused by bacterial infections, even if they look like they are.

There are several ways for you to take antibiotics. These can be taken orally by swallowing the medication. Alternately, you can apply antibiotics on the skin, or inject the medication to go directly to your bloodstream.

Sinus Dynamics offers you the chance to use an efficient tool for getting antibiotics to the target source of your sinus problems. A nebulizer is one recommended device for distributing the medication evenly in your nasal and sinus cavities where bacteria dwells. Ask your doctor for what can be recommended for your sinusitis. The use of antibiotics may be combined with other prescription medication that fits into the perfect treatment program for you. Sinus Dynamics has a team of representatives who are willing to help you understand your sinus needs.

Some words of caution when it comes to taking antibiotics: you have to follow your doctor's complete instructions. Medicines with antibiotics provide powerful defenses against your bacterial infections. But if overused or misused, the bacteria in your body may become accustomed to antibiotics and may eventually be able to resist the medicine's healing powers.
