Sinusitis Sphenoid

The Sphenoid Sinuses are recognized as the “deep” sinuses, located behind the ethmoid sinuses, and positioned deep in the skull.  The Sphenoid Sinuses are typically asymmetrical and are located behind the nose.  There are several pairs of paranasal sinuses. There are the frontal, ethmoid, maxillary and sphenoid sinuses.  The function of the sinuses involve warming and heating inhaled air, insulating the surrounding structures e.g. the eyes and nerves, increasing voice resonance, and acting as a buffer against facial trauma.  The actual shape and size of the sphenoid sinuses are small; as small as a grape and delicately located where the eyes and the brain meet.   When a Sinusitis Sphenoid Infection develops there is the necessary inflammation of the sinus cavities.  Sinusitis takes place usually as a result of a cold or an allergy which causes swelling of the sinus cavity walls.  However, when bacteria enter the sinus cavities and attack the already swollen nasal cavity lining, the opening of the sinuses can become swollen shut.  The cilium, small hairs inside the nasal passage whose function is to remove pathogens cannot perform their designated function.  Typically, the cilia flush out bacteria and excess mucus obstructing the sinus cavities.  However, when there is a significant amount of inflammation and the infection grows inside the blocked sinuses, the cilia cannot assist with removing pathogens; this is the starting point of a sinusitis infection.  When an affected person has a sphenoid sinusitis infection there is typically pain behind the eyes as well as the top of the head, referred to as the vertex.

There are many symptoms that develop with a sinusitis infection.  Common symptoms of a sinusitis infection include: cough, upper respiratory congestion, postnasal drip, nasal discharge, fever, facial pain and facial pressure.  In addition, there may be the added symptoms resulting in pain behind and around the eyes and in the forehead area with the diagnosis of a Sphenoid Sinusitis Infection.

There are some distinctive qualities that separate a Sinusitis Sphenoid Infection from the other paranasal sinus infections.  A Sphenoid Sinusitis Infection is characterized by a deep headache with pain experienced on the top of the head and across the forehead as well as behind the eyes.  In addition, fever is a common symptom for those with a sphenoid sinusitis infection as well pain increasing when bending over or bending back, double vision, and postnasal discharge.  There are numerous treatments available to treat a sphenoid sinusitis infection.

The most common treatment that is also widely prescribed for a sinusitis infection is an oral antibiotic.  Oral antibiotics rely on the blood stream and blood vessels to carry the medication to the infected site.  A significant problem exists for the sinus cavities relying on the blood vessels exclusively to deliver medication to the infected sinus cavities; the sinus cavities are characterized be very few blood vessels and with such a scant amount of blood vessels hen the tiny swollen nasal membranes are also infected an effective dose of medication cannot be delivered with the limited amount of blood vessels.   In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral medication.

Nasal sprays are another common treatment method that are either prescribed or recommended over the counter for sinusitis infections.  Nasal sprays deliver a rather large particle size into the nasal passage due to the design of the bottle.  This large particle size emitted from the nasal spray bottle cannot reach up into the inflamed openings of the sinus cavities and therefore cannot provide effective relief or actually remove the pathogens caught inside the upper sinus cavities.  When bacteria actively attack the sinus openings a treatment that can reach the site of infection is needed, especially the upper sinus cavity openings that are hard to reach.  Therefore, a nasal spray can only offer limited relief and treatment to the lower sinuses in a sinusitis infection and definitely could not reach the deep sphenoid sinuses located deep in the skull.

Sinus Dynamics offers the most effective treatment for all types of sinusitis infections, in particular, a sphenoid sinusitis infection.  Sinus Dynamics utilizes custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are delivered with a pressurized aerosolized mist through a state of the art nebulizer.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a 3.2-micron particle size which is a fine medicated mist that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities and fight through the bacteria, reaching the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities.  The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is highly effective as medications that are topically applied result in little to no side effects and ensure a low systemic absorption rate.  Call Sinus Dynamics (877) 447-4276 to receive a highly effective, easy to use, safe sinus therapy that has a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with a sinusitis sphenoid infection.
