Sinusitis Staph Infection

Staph or Staphylococcus Aureus are bacteria that are frequently found in the skin flora and can exist in many places, often colonizing within the nasal passages of most healthy people.  However, when bacteria are trapped by mucus in the sinus area that cannot drain it can become a Sinusitis Staph Infection.  A staph infection is the signature bacteria of Chronic Sinus Infections.  Staph infections are typically treated by antibiotics.  There are several classes of antibiotics that are prescribed to treat a Sinusitis Staph Infection and the spectrum is wide within each class in treating this bacteria.  The class of antibiotics used to treat MRSA is referred to as the glycopeptides class.  Antibiotics in the glycopeptides class are used to treat some super buds as well as virulent infections.

Mucus build up

When a Sinusitis Infection develops there is the symptom of inflammation stemming from a blockage or a pathogen within the sinus cavities.  Typically, sinusitis takes place as a result of a cold or an allergy that has already caused swelling of the sinus cavity walls.  The presence of anatomical defects can also predispose patients to sinusitis, as well.  However, when a pathogen such as Staph enter the sinus cavities and attack the already swollen nasal cavity lining, the opening of the sinuses can become swollen shut.  The cilium, small hairs inside the nasal passage function is to remove pathogens by sweeping them out of the sinus cavity.  During a sinus infection, the cilia cannot perform their designated function during a sinusitis infection.  Typically, the cilia flush out bacteria and excess mucus obstructing the sinus cavities, however, when there is a significant amount of inflammation at the sinus opening the infection grows inside the blocked sinuses.  The cilia inside the sinus cavity then cannot assist with removing pathogens when the sinus cavity is shut; this is the starting point of a sinusitis infection.

Symptoms of a sinusitis staph infection

There are a myriad of symptoms that take place with a sinusitis infection.  Common symptoms of a sinusitis infection include: cough, congestion (that can occur in both upper and lower respiratory tract), postnasal drip, nasal discharge, fever, facial pain and facial pressure.  When the diagnosis is a Sinusitis Staph Infection there may be additional symptoms resulting in a longer course of treatment due to the virulence of the staph bacteria. Sinusitis is a condition caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus found in the sinus cavities.

When a Sinusitis Infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is diagnosed as a Chronic Sinusitis Infection and there may be the added complication of loss of taste and smell as well as fatigue.  A staph infection is a bacterial infection which can lead to many other types of infections if left untreated.  It is believed by some that a staph infection is cause of approximately 20% of all Chronic Sinusitis Infections.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacteria infections.  An antibiotic is substance that inhibits the growth of other microorganisms and work on many types of infections by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area via the blood vessels.  The most common treatment that is widely prescribed for a sinusitis infection, however ineffective, is an oral antibiotic.  Oral antibiotics rely on the blood stream and blood vessels to carry the medication to the infected site.  A significant problem exists for the sinus cavities relying on the blood vessels to deliver medication to the infected sinus cavities; the sinus cavities are characterized be very few blood vessels and when the tiny swollen nasal membranes are also infected an effective dose of medication cannot be delivered with the limited amount of blood vessels.   In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral medication.

Another common treatment that is recommended for sinusitis infections are nasal sprays which can be obtained over the counter or prescribed by a physician.  Nasal sprays deliver a rather large particle size into the nasal passage due to the design of the bottle.  This large particle size emitted from the nasal spray bottle cannot reach up into the inflamed openings of the sinus cavities and therefore cannot provide effective relief or actually remove the pathogens caught inside the upper sinus cavities.  When bacteria are actively attacking the sinus openings, a treatment that reaches the site of infection is needed.  The upper sinus cavity openings are difficult to treat due to the narrow sinus passages yet to effectively provide healing and relief, medication needs to reach the area to provide relief and begin the healing process. Therefore, a nasal spray can only offer limited relief and treatment to the lower sinuses in a sinusitis infection and definitely could not reach the deep sphenoid sinuses located deep in the skull.

Strong medicine for a strong infection: Nebulized TX

Sinus Dynamics offers the most effective treatment for all types of sinusitis infections, including  a Sinusitis Staph Infection.  Sinus Dynamics provides a topical treatment using custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are aerosolized and delivered through a state of the art nebulizer directly into the sinus cavity.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a 3.2-micron particle size which is a fine medicated mist that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities and fight through the bacteria, reaching the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities.  The medicated mist is able to travel up into the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is highly effective as medications that are topically applied result in little to no side effects.  In addition, topical medications do not rely on the entire blood stream and ensures a low systemic absorption rate.  Sinus Dynamics sinus therapy is by far the most innovative technology for the treatment of sinusitis on the market.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical treatment approach is highly effective, safe and easy to use with a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with a sinusitis infection.  Contact Sinus Dynamics to discuss which treatment would be best to treatment your sinusitis staph infection (877) 447-4276.
