Preventing Sinusitis

To avoid developing sinusitis during a cold or allergy attack, keep your sinuses clear by:

  • Using an oral decongestant or a short course of nasal spray decongestant
  • To keep nasal discharge thin, you can use this technique: gently blow your nose and block one nostril by blowing through the other
  • Avoiding air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain

Tobramycin Dose for Sinusitis

 

To treat a bacterial infection causing sinus problems, antibiotics are prescribed. The dose and duration of the course of treatment depends on what kind of sinus infection you have and how severe your symptoms are. Your doctor needs to observe your sinusitis for several days before prescribing anything in order to make sure you are advised with the right medication.

 

There are different kinds of antibiotics available for you. The administration of these medications also differs. Antibiotics can be taken orally, intravenously or topically. Aresolized antibiotics allow the medication to be applied topically to the infected area. A nasal spray device or a nebulizer is used for this purpose.
