Sinusitis vs. Sinus Infection
It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician's diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complication. |
There are different types of antibiotics used to treat sinusitis. Amoxicillin is the most common type of antibiotic. Studies show that amoxicillin has very few known side effects and has a high percentage rate of success. However, depending on the level and type of sinusitis you have, other antibiotics can also be prescribed for you.
Tobramycin is another type of antibiotics used for sinusitis treatment. It is usually mixed into a compound solution with other medications that is used with a nebulizer. Treatment of sinusitis with a nebulizer allows the medication to be applied topically onto the infected areas. Topical treatment allows for direct contact of the medication to the infection, treating it in an almost an instant.
Tobramycin used for sinusitis treatment through inhalation to the lungs have been proven effective. The aerosol administration allows high concentrations of tobramycin to be delivered to the site of infection with limited systematic absorption.
Sinus Dynamics uses advanced technology in providing aerosolized anti-infectives for sinusitis. With an easy to use nebulizer, you get the right dosage of medication when and where you need it. Let Sinus Dynamics help you in treating your sinusitis, may it be caused by bacteria, or by some other infection. Custom compound medications, including tobramycin, can be prepared for you to be applied directly to your sinus infection.
In rare cases, systemic absorption of inhaled tobramycin may be significant enough to produce toxic effects, such as renal and vestibular toxicities. You have to coordinate with your doctor in order to know how this antibiotic may react to your body, especially if you have other illnesses to consider.
Allergic reactions to tobramycin include difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives. Tobramycin can also cause deafness, ringing in the ears, loss of equilibrium or vertigo or dizziness. Tobramycin can be highly toxic to kidneys especially if multiple doses accumulate over the course of treatment. If any of these side effects occur, talk to your health care provider to consider a different treatment program.
Tobramycin, like any other antibiotics must be used with caution. Unless it is proven or highly suspected that there is indeed bacterial infection, you should not use tobramycin because there is a possibility of bacteria developing immunity to antibiotics when this type of medication is used.
