Aerosolized Medication | Safe Sinusitis Treatments That Work

Aerosol drug administration also known as Inhalation Therapy is a therapy by which drugs are dispersed into the lungs, bronchial or sinus airways in tiny droplets through a nebulizer. Aerosolized medication - is “inhalation therapy” and typically includes the use of one of two types of nebulizers which are mechanical pumps. One nebulizer is a hand held (ultrasonic) and the other is stationary (compression). Nebulizers disperse the drug in a pressurized mist or gas to create a fine mist when inhaled and are a common method of delivering medications for those with sinusitis, respiratory issues, asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis. Sinusitis aerosolized treatment therapy is very effective when used correctly due to the longer period of time dispersed, allowing the airways to stay open longer. The purpose of aerosolized medications is to administer medication where rapid absorption and localization is an appropriate response and is safe practice. Patient education is important with Aerosolized medication and is typically utilized for asthmatic conditions and lung conditions. Nebulization is gaining popularity as an alternative treatment method as aerosolized medications minimize toxicity which lowers incidence of systemic adverse reactions and are quickly absorbed into the blood stream. Nebulized technology is available to deliver the micron sized particle of 1-5 Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameter (MMAD) medication to the upper sinus passages, upper respiratory tract as well as the lower respiratory if needed. Aerosolized therapy is considered a topical treatment due to the medication making actual contact with the infection directly.
A sinusitis infection is inflammation of the sinus lining, especially the nasal sinuses. The infection in the sinus area is frequently treated with antibiotics. An antibiotic is a compound or substance that slows down the growth of bacteria or kills bacteria or any microorganism that is antagonistic to the growth of other microorganisms and is a treatment that is prescribed with the purpose of eliminating the bacteria which is an underlying cause for sinusitis. Aerosoilized antibiotics, like oral antibiotics, are prescribed and also chosen due to the culture and type of infection. For example, Tobramycin is prescribed for persistent lung infections known to be effective for respiratory problems and recognized as a proprietary treatment for sinusitis with the use of a nebulizer. Tobramycin is only available in a custom compound formula e.g. liquid, injection and IV form.
Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses caused by a blockage in the sinus cavity caused by foreign debris. The blockage of bacteria, fungi or virus also triggers excess mucus production in the sinus cavities and inflammation due to the pathogens attacking the sinus cavity openings. When the sinus cavity openings are attacked this leads to a more serious sinus infection. Sinusitis develops typically as a result when there is existing inflammation from a cold or allergy. When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swelling of the cavity lining, causing more inflammation. During a sinusitis infection, the cilia which are small hairs in the nasal passageways cannot perform their function of removing the debris that is blocked inside the sinus cavity. There are a myriad of symptoms that take place with a sinusitis infection. Common symptoms of a sinusitis infection include: cough, upper respiratory congestion, postnasal drip, nasal discharge, fever, facial pain and facial pressure.
A nebulizer can also act as an effective sinus irrigator. The Nebulizers provided by Sinus Dynamic help clear out the sinus infection, gently forcing unwanted particles out of the nasal passages as the ultrasonic nebulizer delivers a continuous stream of medication; the particles deposited have a MMAD of 1.0. to 3.2. The nebulizers offered by Sinus Dynamics design are not susceptible to contamination, like other nebulizer designs and are high quality with little mechanical issues. Patient coordination is not required with the handheld ultrasonic nebulizer design, they are very easy to use. The inhaled medicated mist reduces inflammation and loosens impacted debris. The Sinus Dynamics Nebulizer irrigates your nasal passages gently and effectively. In addition, Sinus Dynamics provides the antibiotics, antifungals and anti inflammatories needed to treat the vast array of sinus conditions.
Sinusitis frequently requires medication and there are several different treatment options available. Some forms of sinusitis are viral and will not respond to an antibiotic. Chronic sinusitis frequently is viral in nature, however, due to secondary infections that develop from sinusitis an infection will result in the treating physician prescribing an antibiotic at least prophylatically and speed up treatment. The goal of treatment is to reduce the inflammation as well as prevent flare ups while draining the sinus passages.
Many physicians prescribe oral antibiotics to treat sinusitis and oral antibiotics are currently the most common treatment prescribed for a sinusitis infection yet they are marginally effective. Oral antibiotics unfortunately rely on the blood stream and blood vessels exclusively to carry medication to the infected sinus cavity. Relying on the sinus cavities to provide the medication through the limited supply of blood vessels is problematic as the blood vessels cannot deliver an effective dose of medication to the actual site of infection. Recurrent sinusitis infections are common with the use of oral antibiotics due to the blood vessels inability to provide an effective dose to the site of infection. The sinus cavities scant supply of blood vessels which are swollen and infected providing all the treatment to the infection results in an ineffective method for treating this area of the body. In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral antibiotics, such as amoxicillin.
