Sinus Treatments

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses caused by a blockage in the sinus cavity caused by foreign debris.  The blockage of bacteria, fungi or virus also triggers excess mucus production in the sinus cavities and inflammation due to the pathogens attacking the sinus cavity openings.  When the sinus cavity openings are attacked this leads to a more serious sinus infection.  Sinusitis develops typically as a result when there is existing inflammation from a cold or allergy.  When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swelling of the cavity lining, causing more inflammation.  During a sinusitis infection, the cilia which are small hairs in the nasal passageways cannot perform their function of removing the debris that is blocked inside the sinus cavity.   There are a myriad of symptoms that take place with a sinusitis infection.

Common symptoms of a sinusitis infection include:

  • ·         Cough
  • ·         Upper respiratory congestion
  • ·         Postnasal drip
  • ·         Nasal discharge
  • ·         Fever
  • ·         Facial pain and facial pressure

It is important to understand how you developed sinusitis.  Understanding how the sinusitis began is a major part of the process of getting to an effective sinus treatment.  Monitoring your condition also helps in understanding what your body needs in order to heal from a sinus condition.  For sinus problems with related dental issues, sinus treatment frequently includes eradicating the dental disease as well.  Typically, the sinusitis will persist if the dental disease is not addressed.

The sinus treatment options available for a sinusitis infection include over the counter decongestants, antihistamines, expectorants, and nasal sprays as well as prescribed oral and liquid antibiotics and steroids.  Most physicians prescribe an oral antibiotic to treat sinusitis.  However, oral antibiotics are known to be marginally effective in treating a sinusitis infection.  Oral antibiotics unfortunately rely on the blood stream and blood vessels exclusively to carry medication to the infected sinus cavity.  Relying on the sinus cavities to provide the medication through the limited supply of blood vessels in the sinus cavity is problematic as the blood vessels cannot deliver an effective dose of medication to the actual site of infection.  Recurrent sinusitis infections are common with the use of oral antibiotics due to the scant amount of blood vessels that are thus unable to deliver an effective dose to the site of infection.  The sinus cavities blood vessels which are swollen and infected providing all the treatment to the sinusitis infection results in an ineffective method for treating this area of the body.   In short, it is difficult to effectively treat any sinusitis infection with oral antibiotics.

·         There are other routes available to deliver medication to the sinus cavities during a sinusitis infection that are more effective.  A nasal administration is an under used route of admission that can effectively treat sinusitis conditions.  Tobramycin is a potent antibiotic that is used specifically for sinus and lung infections and is delivered through a nebulizer, for example.  Medication compliance is strongly advised with Tobramycin as well as informing your doctor or pharmacist of your medical history and history of allergies.  This is an antibiotic that serves to kill the bacterial infections in the sinuses.

Decongestants

Decongestants are commonly used to provide symptom reduction during a sinusitis infection and function by shrinking swollen mucous membranes that are in the nasal passageways and sinus cavity openings and provide symptom relief.  The purpose of a decongestant is to allow for easy breathing during a sinus infection, unblocking the airways.  Spray decongestants also are available and provide immediate relief, but due to the active ingredient oxymetazoline or phenylephrine can become habit forming as well as inducing a rebound effect.  If spray decongestants are used for too long and the medication wears off, the swelling in the nasal cavity returns and is more severe than it was prior to the last application of decongestant.  Hence, a dependency on nasal sprays can easily develop which may require steroids to assist with the withdrawal period as well as reducing inflammation.  The rebound effect from a decongestant spray can occur for anyone using a decongestant spray from a bad cold to an acute sinusitis infection.

A nasal spray is a treatment method that is widely utilized for sinusitis infections and can provide some sinus relief.  Nasal sprays are obtained over the counter or prescribed by a physician but due to the design of the nasal spray bottle, a nasal spray emits a large particle size that cannot fit into the tiny sinus openings.  The large particle cannot reach the inflamed openings of the sinus cavities nor remove the pathogens caught inside the upper sinus cavities.  Nasal sprays only treat the lower nasal passages and remove pathogens in the lower sinus regions.  When physicians have failed in eradicating the sinusitis infection, sinus surgery will often be recommended.  Sinus surgery is painful and only clears out a portion of the sinus infection.  Patients who have had previous sinus surgeries typically require future  sinus surgeries.

Acute or chronic sinusitis - the treatments are alike

When experiencing sinus problems that are acute or chronic, the treatment regimen will likely require taking medication.  In most cases of acute sinusitis the symptoms will resolve without medication. There are a number of known natural cures that are readily available around your home to reduce suffering from sinusitis. Running warm water over the face especially the nose area is beneficial for alleviating nasal congestion and facial pain.  Avoiding foods that thicken mucous like dairy, citrus, and spicy foods will help in clearing the nasal passages of mucous blockages.  A salt water rinse mixture poured into the nasal passage is also helpful as well increasing fluid intake to clear the nasal secretions is also beneficial.

When acute episode of a sinus infection recurs with incessant regularity, leading to a decrease in quality of life, home cures are no longer sufficient. For instance, when there is a diagnosis of an acute viral sinusitis, the treatment regimen requires taking prescribed medications to reduce fever as well as alleviate facial pain and bodyache. Oral or topical decongestants can be prescribed or obtained other the counter to assist with reducing congested breathing.  Chronic sinus conditions may require a higher level of care.  Functional surgery is one consideration for severe cases of chronic sinusitis.

Nebulizers are devices used for different types of sinus problems.  The nebulizer uses liquid medication and emits the medication in a fine mist into the nasal passage.  The infected sinus area then receives the medication, resulting in a topical application. Sinus Dynamics provides these sinus devices and medications with Sinus Dynamics assisting with all aspects of your sinus care treatment. Sinus Dynamics services assist with the doctor referrals, detailed explanations of all devices and medication as well as assistance with the use of the nebulizer.  Sinus Dynamics provides assistance with handling insurance concerns and delivers the medication within 24-48 hours.  Sinus Dynamics can provide you with a complete treatment program addressing your sinus therapy needs.

Sinus Dynamics offers the most innovative treatment for sinusitis infection currently on the market with custom compounded antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories that are delivered directly into the sinus cavities with a state of the art nebulizer that produces a pressurized aerosolized mist.  Sinus Dynamics nebulizer emits a fine medicated mist with 3.2-micron particle size that can rapidly enter the inflamed sinus cavities, depositing medication and making contact with the infection directly. The aerosolized medicated mist is sent up into nasal passages reaching the actual site of the sinusitis infection, fighting the infection on contact.  Sinus Dynamics’ topical approach to treating sinusitis is particularly effective as medications that are topically applied result in little to no side effects and ensure a low systemic absorption rate as well as reaching the site of infection unlike the other treatment methods prescribed.  Sinus Dynamics sinus therapy is highly effective, easy to use, and safe with a 98% success rate in the treatment of patients who are suffering with sinusitis.  Call Sinus Dynamics today to order your sinus treatment for acute or chronic sinusitis (877) 447-4276.
